HP is still capable of making a good inkjet printer, but its all-in-one fare has been a mixed bag in the past.
In this case, the all-in-one is actually decent. It was a decent scanner and nice shortcut copy buttons that allow you to make black/white and color copies without having to go through the tired process of insert, scan, then print.
I think that HP still has a ways to go in providing an all-in-one that doesn't FEEL cheap. The tray is still rickety and sometime the paper feed was a little problematic. The paper feed was solved once I got the hang of inserting the paper correctly, but it just doesn't have the same simplicity of an officer laserjet where you can just throw the paper in the thing and then forget it.
A big plus, however, is the separation of the various color components for printing purposes. My belief is that it leads to more vibrant, color-accurate photos because you don't have a single cartridge trying to do it all-at-once (with a resultant print head that looks like a smeared rainbow). If some of your photos are blue-heavy (bunch of background sky photos, for example), then you're replacing one-not ALL-cartridges based on that usage.
My biggest gripe is the use of the "all-in-one" phrase. "All-in-one" used to mean printer/copier/scanner/fax machine. Now, you can actually have "all-in-ones" that may have one of those features missing.
If there would be one printer to recommend, it would be the premium version: http://www.amazon.com/Photosmart-Premium-Inkjet-Printer-CC335A/dp/B001PO6JLO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257788624&sr=8-1. 2-sided printing, the ability to print on CDs, and the ability to fax makes this printer all the more worthwhile. However, if you're looking for a good mid-range printer and save on space, this one does it just fine...just make sure that you insert the paper with a good solid "thud."Get more detail about HP Photosmart Plus All-in-One Printer (CD035A#ABA).
