I purchased this item mainly to replace my older fax machine that used films. I don't receive many faxes, so it took a long time for the last machine to replace the film, and then it went crazy. (After I put the new film in but keep saying need a new one....) So I decided to get a inkjet machine. At the time(over a year ago), this was one of high rated and reasonable price (I paid close to $300), but not long after I got it, the ink just gone done a lot (used less then 10 pages). I read one of the review somewhere, the machine will use the color ink even you only print out black and white. And if you don't replace the inks, the machine will stop working. I normally only buy from the manufacturer, but it would cost $40-$50 to replace all, I was happy to get good deal from Amazon market place, it saved me a lot. But same thing happen again, the ink gone down (almost all gone), without me received more then few pages of faxes, just unbelievable.

Other then the ink issue, the phone works well. I had used the printer couple times when I first got it, and the color just not acceptable to me (to print photos), my HP printer does better job, so this one just stay as phone/fax machine. For it's current price at Amazon for $150, I think it's decent price for it's value, but you must prepare to deal with ink cost, until a better solution come out, I will keep getting cheap ink from Amazon. First let me say that I am a computer expert. I have been using Vista since the beta version, and I actually like it. I have also been testing Windows 7, which is similar to Vista, but is supposed to need less computer resources and be MORE compatible.
I love this printer on Vista with a USB connection. The network connection was a bit slow but the USB was great. The colors are incredible for a laser printer. I am a Realtor and do a LOT of printing. With this printer I can print my own fliers, which saves on printing costs. I've owned the printer less than a year.

HP has no intention of supporting this printer on Windows 7 64bit. So, now that I've spent hours upgradding my main computer,not to mention hundreds of dollars for Windows 7, I've learned that my best printer is NOT compatible.

So - if you are considering this printer, and there is any chance that you will be converting to Windows 7 - forget it, look elsewhere.

By the way AMAZON is awesome - this is NO reflection on them.
I am very angry with HP who has decided NOT to write Windows 7 drivers.

I thought about writing a review right after getting this printer because I was so disappointed with the support for drivers, but it is good to have waited and have more information.

First off, if you are trying to save money and you are using an older system, like say Windows 2000 or 98, forget this printer. They simple don't support it and are not intending to. Also they will not be supporting Linux any time soon. I have a Linux computer and a Windows 2000 computer neither can use this printer. I ended up hooking it to my sons WinXP system and have to either send or network to print anything from the other two computers. I wrote Kodak and they gave me the standard response of "we do not support ... Operating System at this time. They have been saying that since the printer came out according to the blogs.

Next, 4 months after getting the printer, I hardly use it since it is on my son's computer and he prints only once or twice a week for school papers, the left feeder wheel jams the paper. It seems to slip in the cog then the paper is out of alignment and the paper folds over and jams. The gears must be poorly made as I have once before encountered this problem but it was on a 7 or 8 year old well used HP printer. Now the printer jams every 5th or 6th time but I know this will get worse and 5th or 6th time stink as it is.

I will try to update this after I call for warranty info, but sending it back to them would cost $20 bucks and add to the already slightly relatively higher price (since you get cheaper ink).

On top of the above, when the printer was working correctly with Window XP, it really takes a long time to start up and printing is incredibly slow. They advertise 29 color and 30 b/w ppm. I just printed one page, draft quality color, of the Amazon description page and it took 20 seconds before the printer even started to print and 2 minutes altogether, no kidding, 2 minutes, to print out the page. The draft quality looks faded but legible. I just printed a text doc, b/w, normal mode not draft and it took 12 seconds to start and 30 seconds altogether to print the document. That is more like three pages per minute after the initial start up. To be fair I tried printing the same page, b/w, draft, and it took, no kidding 90 seconds. I don't know what is up with their software but that is horrible. I never tried draft after my first time since it was too faded for my preference. I'm a tech so don't think I'm screwing this up... it takes 1 minute longer to print the same page in draft. I though I must have done something wrong and went through all the steps again and no, it's right.

Well for the good... print quality is good (not great) and ink is cheap.

I really recommend that people stay away from this printer. I think Kodak screwed up here. If you are trying to sell a print by saying it saves money by having low cost ink, make it work with old operating systems or freeware operating systems. Make it last for more that a year or two. I could deal with performance issues if I was actually saving anything.

I have been extremely pleased with HP printers for as long as I've been computing (almost 25 years!), however I bought an HP Laserjet P3005x in late 2007 and have had no end of problems, the most significant being the faulty formatter board, which is the brain of the printer. I have learned that this part is defective in a large number of these particular printers, and that there is an HP service note on units within a certain serial number range. My printer of course is just outside the service note range and is out of warranty, so I am S.O.L. with a dead printer barely over a year old. My old HP Laserjet 4L worked for almost 10 years without a single problem. Needless to say, this has been one very disappointing printer, and the fact that a crucial component within the printer was defective right from the start (and many, many other units contain the same defective part!) is even more disappointing. Please be cautioned that the Laserjet P3005 series printers are repair magnets; if you are considering buying one I recommend that you try to find out the serial number of the printer you intend to purchase, and do some research with respect to the service history of that serial number series. Proof positive this product last only one year. Purchased new, one year later an error message shut it down, in which HP admitted they'd cover under warranty. HOWEVER - they would only replace with a REFURBISHED machine and then guarantee that for only 90 days. AND, we had to pay shipping to return it!

One year later THAT refurbished machine broke with the exact same error message. I mean almost TO THE DAY, one year later. No joke - these are very expensive machines to last only one year.

We are switching brands and will never use HP in the office again.

I should note that the HP customer service was horrible as well. First off, it was SO difficult to understand the "overseas" operator that I had to ask for an on shore operator. Even then, the new operator had a thick accent as well and it was very difficult to get it all ironed out. I took it up with HP admin and they were non-responsive. This machine is the worst printer I have ever owned.
After a few hundred pages, the machine failed. Customer Service (CS) makes you spend hours on the phone, jumping through hoops.
Finally they consent to send a new machine.
That machine fails.
More time with CS in never never land (or somewhere).
But it must have been the printheads. So they send replacements after days of lost work time, and hours on the phone. (Who has time for it?)
They fail.
More time with CS.
They tell me that the machine should not have been replaced without replacing the printheads as well. Who knew? Certainly not the nitwits that HP employs.
I've owned HP printers, calculators, and pcs for nearly 20 years. Never again is an HP product coming across my threshold.
They are selling a defective product, and think that the customer should suck it up.
I'm going to the FTC and NYS attorney general to file a complaint if the next replacement fails.
If you want to have a similar experience, have root canal with no anesthesia, or buy this printer. the choice is yours.

This is one of the noisiest, most annoying printers I've ever had the displeasure of using. The guy next to me has one. We joke about the squirrel inside. It is always chirping and grinding. I despise the thing. Most everyone here does.
Print quality is fair. Speed is not good. The dumbest thing is the wake up/sleep button is the same as the copy button so if you are a little impatient like me you'll end up putting it to sleep rather than getting the copy you need. If It were up to me I'd throw it out the window.
