I judge the color print quality as very good, despite it's not a photo printer. I've printed photos and renderings, as well as presentations and never been disappointed. Mac drivers are nice, and do a good job based on color profiles for various media.

Well gooollleeee jeez! 2 printers later I found that the ink cartidge inlets and/or the electrical contacts bounce back after a cleaning. I now have 2 perfectly well running printers.

I expected that printing pictures would use ink up quickly, but it seems to go through ink when printing out pages of text and printscreens, too. I keep it on the text (sometimes text and picture) setting, but I'm still going through ink faster than I did on my HP printer (which was ok on ink).

I'm dealing with this at a customer who purchased one. Scanning to a network destination really means "scanning to HP's software installed on a PC which will then put the file in the destination." Scanning directly to FTP or SMB is not available.

UPDATE: Basically, this printer is good for a small office that isn't using a central server for all documents - if everyone in the office is running off local PCs and storing files locally, this lets each user scan directly to their PC.

Basically, you install the HP software on the destination system(s) (Windows or possibly a Mac), then go through the configuration wizard on each machine to configure the available document types (photos, documents) and destinations (directories, email) on that PC. Automatic file naming is along the lines of "hpscan1.pdf," or you can choose to be prompted for a file name each time. When scanning to the network, you hit the "Scan Menu" button on the device, then pick the kind of scan (Scan to PC), then select the PC, then select the destination on that PC.

I'm amazed that with years to work on it HP hasn't managed to come up with a better solution. As others have noted, this printer is ridiculously fast. Even when it's hibernating in sleep mode, it only takes about 10 seconds for it to wake up, and start printing.

It's an extremely reliable workhorse- I've printed at least 20-30,000 pages to mine without a single paper jam. All I do is refill it with paper, and the occasional printer cartridge.
