Well I was really excited about getting the 4880 but I have yet to get the first print off it. The box arrived in good shape but the printer had some broken parts in it and still does not work. The paper cover for the front paper tray was broken and the door and catch for the left side cartridge door was broken. The catch has to be replaced by a tech. Going through the steps of loading the ink cartridges I got error messages and have not yet got it working. So far I would say I am not impressed with Epson quality as all I have is a $2000 printer that still does not work a month after getting it. I hope we can get it working and up and going. I am very disappointed with this printer for the following reasons:

1. Replacement ink is expensive and does not last long.
2. I am held hostage to replace the ink - the printer will stop ALL printing if the cartridge is not replaced in a timely manner.
3. Constant reminders to replace the ink, must press the OK button BEFORE the page will print - I have better things to do than baby-sit my printer.
4. Will not print in black ink only - so there is no way to conserve the expensive color ink.

This is the 3rd HP printer I have purchased. We got 5 to 6 years usage out of the previous two. This one will be replaced with less than 6 months usage and not by another HP printer.

The problem is that these printers have a defective formatter board that tends to fail extremely quickly; if you're lucky it will be within the warranty period. I bought five of these for my office; 3 failed within a two month period after their warranties ran out. Hp support insists this problem does not exist, but just Google "Laserjet P2015 formatter board." By most accounts the failure rate within approximately a year and a half is between 30-50%. I bought this machine and it works well mechanically, prints well, and prints quickly. The price of toner is a tiny 1 cent per page.

However, if it is printing when the phone rings, I get a high pitched tone on the phone. I tried it with different phones and in different rooms, and continued to get that high-pitched tone. I put filters on the telephones and tried other electronic solutions to block the interference, which occurred even when the printer was in its demo mode, printing while not plugged into my computer.

Their tech support was baffled on this (I probably spoke to a dozen people in vain attempts to fix this), but when I asked if we could replace it with a new unit, they offered to send me only a refurbished unit (possibly one year old), even though mine was only two days old.

I wouldn't rank their tech support as outstanding. Also, although some told me they had never heard of this problem before, a couple of others told me that they had just started hearing of this on other models as well (is information shared in that place?).

This makes me wonder about their engineering. I have an FCC radio license and know something about radio frequency interference. RF interference should be dealt with at its source in the heart of the machine through shielding and other preventive measures, and my guess is that Samsung is skimping in this area, or perhaps they are making too many units with shoddy wiring, where the shield wires are breaking off.

After a week and 15 hours trying to fix this problem, I gave up and sent it back to the mail order place I bought it from. I didn't want to have them send me another unit to play with.

I'm a fan of Dell products, and this printer is one of the reasons for that. It is affordable in you buy it direct from Dell (about $199) and it is very easy to set up and prepare to use with your computer. It's a little bulky for a small printer and you will need a good space for it. I have a large desk in my home that it sits on.

The quality of the color is phenomenal. Incredible color reproduction. It prints very quickly but I've noticed that it takes a few seconds to warm up to the actual printing. I've also owned a Dell 1110 black and white laser printer, also a great printer, and it's warm up time was about half that of this model.

But, that's ok. I print so little that I don't need it to be super quick. It's a work horse printer that supposedly will eject well over 1000 pages before needing new toner. If there's a real problem with this machine, it's the price for replacing the toner. It's not cheap to replace the four color representations.

I have had the same problems as the other negative reviewer, with even more problems for a printer that is only about a year old. In addition, when I try to print legal sheets, it invariably jams up after 1 sheer. Talked to HP several times and it was always "you must be doing something wrong." I do know how to put paper in a printer. So I bought another printer to just print legal and continued to use the printer for letter sized printing and a lot of scanning. Then I installed Windows 7, and voila, no drivers for the printer. Printing regular b & w text moves along at about 1 page per minute, with a lot of delay in between pages. Also, the scanner does not work - no Windows 7 driver. Due to a prior software problem where a "fix" was promised for three years and never came, I have little faith in getting the drivers anytime soon. We originally bought this guy as a backup for our Canon scanner, printer, makes lemonade, etc., printer. However, the Canon soon died and well, this one easily adapted to our main computer usage. The guy at Best Buy told us to stick with HP since printers are their specialty and recommended this one. Only thing bad about it is that it really doesn't like it when you use a refilled cartridge over a new one. It will jam on you and tell you it has an obstruction if the cartridge is even slightly off. Caused a lot of stress until HP told us the problem. It's worked great ever since - faxes are particularly easy to send and receive and it feeds multiple sheets at once. If I could change anything it would be the scanner. I'd like one that is flat, like a copier, so I can scan larger items to sell on ebay, i.e. book covers, etc. Other than that, this thing has been going strong for over 2.5 years and is just one of those things you get once in awhile that you're glad you had the help from the salesclerk. Here it is Tuesday the 6th and haven't heard from anyone yet. Over the weekend I discovered that I got some other errors. Such as "Printer doesn't recognize ink cartridges" Papers edge not found, wouldn't accept card stock, nor could I print business cards. It took numerous tries' and on pure white card stock before would it accept to print business cards. I can't figure out how to lighten the light or darkness of a document being copied or scanned. If it is printed front & back. The light on the scanner is such that it will bleed through and I get a revered copy of what is on the side that is not being copied, and it prints crooked and really slow. I haven't had near the problems that I have read other people having with tech support, but I am only a newbie to this.
