I have been an HP Printer user for over 15 years; I had tried other brands (not Lexmark) and kept going back to HP. This Lexmark Pro205 blew me away! I use it as a wireless device, connected via my router. That's convenient, but the performance and quality are remarkable! So, too, was the support I received when I had questions regarding how to connect to my router. The support technician was quick to answer the phone, was knowledgeable and courteous, and got me up and running immediately!

I love the duplex printing. I am enjoying a fast scan, fast copy, fast fax, fast printing.

But...
...the print cartridges cost as much as the printer. It just so happens that, with use, the ink runs out. And a set of replacement ink cartrdges run pretty close to the cost of the printer itself!

I am not anxious to try other brands of ink, because I don't want to risk a warranty violation. But I would encourage Lexmark to rethink their pricing policy, because the ink cost is the only detrimental aspect of using this printer. As I say, it doesn't matter whether you get 250 sheets, or 1,250 sheets of printed output; eventually, your ink will be used up, and then you have to (in effect) buy another printer. This is the only bad thing here, and I know the same complaint can be made for other printer brands.

Not sure why so many people have had issues with this machine, but I have had none. Our office has 2 of these machines, and both of us use our machines extensively. I literally print 1000's of pages a month and use the scanner all the time. Now I do not use it for faxing, but my other machine is used for faxing all the time and it has no problem at all. The machine is a workhorse in my opinion. I use the top document feeder to do all my scanning and it works great. I use it for copying as well and it also works great.

I have had this printer for about 4 month and I am still on the original ink that it came with! --How great is that? The printer is amazing, it easily links to all my wireless computers through my network, the software is not perfect, but who is, if you have an unsuported OS you have to perform some additional steps to get the software installed (but printer functions work fine) --example: Windows Server. We've had this unit for about six months, and we've learned to live with it. The best thing about it is that it isn't from HP, which inexplicably seems to own the market for units such as this despite lousy products.

Speed: takes a long time to get the first page of a job out, but it moves pretty quickly once it gets going. First page coming from standby seems to take over 30 seconds, but I haven't timed it with a watch.

Color: dull, muddy, and the feed wheels leave tracks in the ink over dark color patches. We diddled our logo colors to work with the thing, but when we want something bright and snazzy, we use a Canon inkjet we keep around just for that.

Document Feeder: works pretty well, doesn't scan edge to edge as one previous reviewer noticed. Doesn't jam though.

Paper feeder: doesn't feed straight. Takes some practice to use.

Envelopes: a total disaster. Mangles them.

Toner life: I believe the claim that it's using color to print black and white, since we seem to go through color cartridges pretty fast, and we do mostly black and white printing.

Pros: Beautiful looking, quiet when printing, inexpensive, great print quality, cute little tunes when you turn it on and off.

Cons: Samsung created an elegant and quiet personal laser printer but they blew it by including a noisy little cooling fan. If you print more than about 10 pages, it starts buzzing and moaning and this goes on for about 10 minutes. Very disappointing, bad way to save a few bucks. Would have gladly paid more for a unit with a quiet cooling fan.
