We've had this unit for about six months, and we've learned to live with it. The best thing about it is that it isn't from HP, which inexplicably seems to own the market for units such as this despite lousy products.
Speed: takes a long time to get the first page of a job out, but it moves pretty quickly once it gets going. First page coming from standby seems to take over 30 seconds, but I haven't timed it with a watch.
Color: dull, muddy, and the feed wheels leave tracks in the ink over dark color patches. We diddled our logo colors to work with the thing, but when we want something bright and snazzy, we use a Canon inkjet we keep around just for that.
Document Feeder: works pretty well, doesn't scan edge to edge as one previous reviewer noticed. Doesn't jam though.
Paper feeder: doesn't feed straight. Takes some practice to use.
Envelopes: a total disaster. Mangles them.
Toner life: I believe the claim that it's using color to print black and white, since we seem to go through color cartridges pretty fast, and we do mostly black and white printing.
I don't know if I'd buy another one, I'm hoping by the time this one dies, something better will be on the market.Get more detail about Brother MFC-9440CN Color Laser All-in-One Printer with Built-in Ethernet Network Interface.
